Ready to Read

This class is a foundational reading class designed for learners with alphabetic knowledge who are ready to begin reading, but may be struggling due to unique learning differences and challenges. We will utilize a structured literacy and Orton-Gillingham based program from Institute for Multi-sensory Education. A review of the alphabet will be included based on learner needs. We will solidify phonological and phonemic awareness (oral and auditory language skills). Learners will progress to using phonics skills with multi-sensory activities to develop skills in both decoding (reading) and encoding (spelling). We will also develop vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. Class pace will be adjusted to learners’ needs to ensure mastery of concepts. Out of class assignments will be provided for learners to review concepts taught in class.
